GIBA is developing a structured body of knowledge, together with the competency, certification and governance architectures that surround it, with transparency and at its current stage of development.
What GIBA is
GIBA is being developed as an independent professional body whose role is stewardship in the public interest: defining, organising, governing and developing professional knowledge and long-term industry capability for the digital built environment.
GIBA is in an architecture and first-draft development phase, and is not yet operationally established at scale. Its public communications reflect that stage of development.
Flagship initiative
The GIBA Book of Knowledge (GBOK)
GBOK is GIBA’s flagship knowledge architecture: a structured, vendor-neutral body of professional knowledge for the digital built environment. It is presented here from a controlled working draft — not as an approved or published standard.
Four architecture pillars
GIBA keeps four architectures deliberately separate. The knowledge architecture is under controlled development, while the competency, certification and governance architectures remain planned institutional capabilities.

A structured body of professional knowledge — the GBOK — organised into families, domains, chapters and sections.
Competency

Three capabilities are being designed as part of GIBA’s institutional architecture. They are presented here so their intended direction is transparent. None of them is available, and none accepts applications.
Membership

Current institutional priorities

Stabilise the knowledge architecture
Progress the GBOK architecture (Blueprint v1.2) through board review toward a controlled, publishable state.

Establish governance and identity
Resolve the institutional name, brand and approval authority so public claims rest on confirmed records.

Develop with transparency
Present development status transparently and hold every public statement to evidence.
Standards and professional practice
GIBA’s knowledge is informed by the concepts of international standards, including the ISO 19650 series, and is expressed vendor-neutrally. This is standards alignment described in careful language — never endorsement, certification or a formal relationship.

GIBA is in an initial institutional development phase. This public website presents its current direction and BIM-first knowledge-development work. Capabilities marked Under Development are not yet operational.
