A future professional certification architecture, currently under development. No final credential levels, titles or eligibility requirements have been approved.
What the architecture would need to define
Nothing below is decided. It describes the questions a credible certification architecture must answer before any programme could exist, so the intended direction is transparent.
- The knowledge required, drawn from the body of knowledge.
- The competencies to be demonstrated in professional practice.
- The professional experience expected, and how it would be evidenced.
- The assessment approach, including how decisions would be made and reviewed.
- The ethical commitments expected of a certified professional.
- Continuing professional development, and how currency would be maintained.
Separation from the publication
A core principle is that certification is not derived from a book’s table of contents. Any future assessment would be built from a competency and assessment blueprint, independently of the structure of GBOK itself.
Training is not certification
Completing training would not, by itself, constitute certification. Recognition would depend on assessed competence against a defined standard — a distinction GIBA maintains deliberately.
Examinations and assessment
A future independent assessment function is intended to support fair and defensible professional certification decisions. Examination formats, eligibility requirements, security controls and governance remain under development.
Independence matters: assessment would be governed separately from the knowledge publication, so that a certification decision rests on evidence of competence rather than familiarity with a document.
Membership is not certification
GIBA’s intended membership structure is a professional community construct. It is distinct from certification and would not, by itself, confer a credential or imply assessed competence.
Current status
No certification scheme is operational. There is no application process, no examination, no fee and no credential register. This page exists to explain intended direction transparently, not to imply availability.
GIBA’s membership, certification and examination frameworks are currently under development and are not yet open for application.
